Happy Thoughts Adventure
Jey sat alone under the old oak tree at school, feeling a heavy sadness in his chest. His best friend had moved away last week, and everything felt gray and empty. He didn't want to play or talk to anyone.
Maya noticed Jey sitting by himself and walked over quietly. She had felt sad like this before when her grandmother went to the hospital. "Hi Jey," she said softly, sitting down beside him.
"I don't feel like doing anything," Jey mumbled, looking at the ground. Maya nodded understanding. "I know something that helped me when I felt really sad. Want to try it?"
Maya showed Jey how to sit comfortably and close his eyes. "Now breathe in slowly, like you're smelling a flower," she instructed gently. "Then breathe out like you're blowing on hot soup."
Jey followed along, breathing in and out slowly. Maya's calm voice continued, "Now imagine your sadness is like a dark cloud. With each breath, the cloud gets a tiny bit lighter."
At first, Jey didn't think it would work. But as he kept breathing, focusing on Maya's words, something strange happened. The tight feeling in his chest loosened just a little.
"Notice how your body feels," Maya whispered. "Your shoulders, your hands, your heart. Just notice, don't try to change anything." Jey realized his shoulders had been scrunched up to his ears, and he let them relax.
They sat together in silence for a few more minutes, just breathing. When Jey opened his eyes, the sadness was still there, but it felt smaller somehow. "It's okay to feel sad," Maya said. "The sadness won't last forever."
Jey looked at Maya and managed a small smile. "Thanks. I still miss my friend, but I feel a bit better." Maya smiled back warmly.
"Whenever the sad feeling gets too big, you can always do this breathing," Maya explained. "And you're not alone. I'm your friend too." Jey nodded, feeling grateful.
From that day on, whenever sadness crept into Jey's heart, he would find a quiet spot, close his eyes, and breathe. And sometimes, Maya would sit with him, two friends learning that even sadness could become lighter with a calm mind and a caring heart.
