Why Did Dinosaurs Disappear?
Dr. Maya Chen loves studying dinosaurs and solving mysteries from millions of years ago. She's here to tell you about one of the biggest mysteries ever: why did the mighty dinosaurs disappear?
Sixty-five million years ago, dinosaurs like Rex the T-Rex and Trixie the Triceratops ruled the Earth. They were everywhere – in forests, plains, and near oceans. Then something terrible happened that changed everything.
A giant asteroid, bigger than a mountain, crashed into Earth near what is now Mexico. The impact was so powerful it created huge clouds of dust and smoke that blocked out the sun for months.
Dinosaurs needed lots of food to survive, but the plants died, and then the plant-eating dinosaurs starved. When they disappeared, the meat-eating dinosaurs like Rex had nothing to hunt.
But not everything died! Small animals like Squeaky, an early mammal ancestor, survived by hiding underground and eating seeds and insects.
Today, Dr. Maya finds fossils – bones that turned to stone over millions of years.
These fossils tell us dinosaurs were real and help us understand what happened. Every fossil is like a piece of a giant puzzle, showing us the amazing story of life on Earth and reminding us how precious and fragile our planet is.
