When Things Do Not Go My Way
Today, I arrived at school excited to play soccer during break time. I had been thinking about it all morning. Soccer is one of my favorite activities.
When break time came, I went outside with my friends. But when I got to the field, I saw that another class was already playing soccer there. They had arrived first and were using the whole field.
I felt disappointed. My body felt tight and my chest felt heavy. These feelings are normal when things do not go the way I planned. Everyone feels disappointed sometimes. I took three slow, deep breaths. Breathing slowly helps my body feel calmer.
I decided to try basketball instead of soccer. Even though it was not my first choice, I could still have fun. I played basketball with Emma and other classmates. I made two baskets and we all cheered for each other.
Later, I thought about what happened. I learned that when things do not go my way, I can take deep breaths, talk to a trusted adult, and choose a different activity.
