The Frog Prince
Princess Eleanor loved to play by the old stone well in the palace gardens. Her favorite toy was a golden ball that sparkled in the sunlight like a tiny sun.
One afternoon, she tossed the ball too high, and it tumbled down into the deep, dark well with a splash. Eleanor peered over the edge, but the water was so deep she couldn't see the bottom.
"I can help you," croaked a voice. A small green frog sat on the edge of the well, wearing the tiniest golden crown she'd ever seen. "I'll fetch your ball if you promise to be my friend—let me eat from your plate and sleep on your pillow."
Eleanor quickly agreed, thinking a frog could never leave the well anyway. But Frederick dove deep and returned with her precious golden ball clutched in his webbed feet.
The next evening, during the royal dinner, a soft knocking echoed at the palace door. There sat Frederick, dripping wet from his long journey. "A promise is a promise," he said gently.
King Richard frowned at his daughter. "Did you make a promise to this frog?" Eleanor nodded reluctantly. "Then you must keep your word. A royal's promise is sacred."
Eleanor let Frederick eat from her golden plate, though it made her squirm. She carried him upstairs and placed him on her silk pillow, though she wasn't happy about it. But as she looked at his hopeful golden eyes, something in her heart softened.
"You've been kind and patient," she said, and gave him a gentle kiss on his damp head. Suddenly, golden light filled the room! Where Frederick the frog had been, now stood a handsome young prince.
"Thank you!" he exclaimed. "A witch cursed me years ago. Only someone who would keep their promise and show true kindness could break the spell."
King Richard rushed in, amazed at the transformation. Prince Frederick explained how he'd been trapped as a frog, waiting for someone with a truly noble heart.
From that day forward, Eleanor and Frederick became the best of friends. She learned that keeping promises and showing kindness—even when it's difficult—can lead to the most magical outcomes. And she never threw her golden ball carelessly again!
