The Tower Without a Door
Aria stood at the edge of the Whispering Woods, staring at the mysterious stone tower that rose above the treetops. Everyone in her village knew about the Tower Without a Door—a structure so smooth that not even a mouse hole could be found in its walls. Yet every night, a warm golden light glowed from its highest window.
They say someone lives up there," croaked a voice above her head. Aria looked up to see a magnificent raven perched on an oak branch, watching her with intelligent golden eyes. "I'm Obsidian, and I know many secrets of these woods."
Aria's eyes widened with excitement. "Can you help me get inside? I want to meet whoever lives there." The raven tilted his head thoughtfully, then swooped down to her shoulder.
Together, they circled the tower three times, searching every inch of the gray stone. Just as Aria was about to give up, Obsidian cawed loudly and pointed his beak at the ground. There, barely visible beneath a carpet of moss, were ancient words carved into the foundation.
'Speak your truest wish, and the tower shall listen,' Aria read aloud. She placed her palm against the cold stone and closed her eyes. "I wish to learn the magic that helps people, to heal what is broken and bring hope to those who have none."
The tower trembled beneath her hand. Before her astonished eyes, the smooth stone began to ripple like water, and a wooden door appeared, already swinging open in welcome. A spiral staircase stretched upward, lit by floating candles that bobbed gently in the air.
Aria and Obsidian climbed the winding stairs, passing shelves filled with curious bottles and ancient books. At the very top, they found a cozy circular room where an elderly woman sat reading beside a crackling fireplace. She looked up with twinkling eyes and a warm smile.
"Welcome, dear child. I am Lady Thornwood," she said, setting down her book. "I have been waiting for someone with a pure heart to find their way here. The tower has no door because it opens only for those who seek knowledge for the right reasons."
"Many have tried to enter," Lady Thornwood explained, pouring tea into delicate cups. "They wished for treasure, or power over others, or fame. The tower remained sealed to them all." She smiled at Aria over her teacup. "But you wished to heal and help. That is the truest magic of all."
From that day forward, Aria climbed the tower every afternoon to learn from Lady Thornwood. Obsidian became her constant companion, flying messages between the tower and the village.
As the seasons changed, Aria grew in wisdom and skill. She never forgot the lesson of the Tower Without a Door: that the greatest magic comes not from power, but from a heart that genuinely wishes to serve others.
And whenever a new student was ready, the tower would open its door once more.
The villagers no longer saw the tower as mysterious and frightening. Now they knew it as a place of learning and kindness, where a young girl with auburn curls was discovering that the most important door to open is the one within your own heart.
