The Arithmetic Kingdom
Maya stumbled through a shimmering portal and landed in the strangest place she'd ever seen. The Kingdom of Numbers was frozen in chaos—a bridge hung in pieces mid-air, its support beams scattered because calculations had failed. Clocks showed impossible times like 13:87, and bakers stared hopelessly at cakes that wouldn't rise no matter how long they stayed in ovens.
A frantic wizard named Erasmus the Erratic rushed toward her. "At last! A child from the world where numbers still work!" he cried. He explained that a jealous sorcerer had cursed the kingdom, freezing all mathematical relationships until someone could solve three real-world puzzles.
Maya's first challenge came at the broken bridge. Master Forge the blacksmith needed to know how many support beams to place if the bridge was 24 meters long and each beam could safely span 3 meters. Maya calculated: 24 ÷ 3 = 8 beams. The bridge pieces flew together instantly!
Next, she fixed the clock tower by figuring out that if the big hand moved 360 degrees in 60 minutes, it traveled 6 degrees per minute. The gears began ticking properly again.
Finally, she helped the baker by scaling a recipe: if 2 cups of flour made 12 cookies, then 6 cups would make 36 cookies (12 × 3 = 36).
With the final answer, golden light exploded across the kingdom. Numbers danced back into their proper places, and everything worked again. Erasmus smiled gratefully as Maya stepped back through the portal, knowing that math had just saved an entire world.
