The Giant Who Guarded the Moon
High above the world, where the mountains touched the sky, lived Magnus the Giant. For a thousand years, he had faithfully guarded the moon, keeping it safe from those who wished to steal its light.
Magnus was lonely in his important task. Each night, he polished the moon until it gleamed, making sure it shone brightly for all the children below. But he had no one to talk to except the passing clouds.
One evening, a brave girl named Luna climbed the highest mountain with her fox companion, Ember. She had heard the stories about the giant who lived in the sky. Everyone in her village was afraid of him, but Luna wanted to see for herself.
When she reached the top, she found Magnus sitting sadly beside the glowing moon. "Are you really as fierce as the stories say?" Luna asked boldly. Magnus looked down at the tiny girl and laughed, a sound like distant thunder.
"Fierce? No, child. I am just very, very lonely," Magnus said with a sigh that rustled the clouds. "I cannot leave my post, and no one ever comes to visit."
Luna felt sorry for the gentle giant. "I could visit you," she offered. "And I could bring stories from the world below."
Magnus's eyes lit up like stars. From that night on, Luna climbed the mountain every week. She brought tales of her village, of festivals and friendships, of laughter and life.
Ember the fox became Magnus's friend too, curling up in his enormous palm while Luna talked. The giant would share his own stories of ancient times and the secrets of the stars.
As word spread through the village, other children grew curious. Soon, Luna wasn't climbing alone. She led groups of brave children up the mountain, and Magnus welcomed them all with joy.
The giant built a beautiful garden in the clouds where children could play safely. He created swings from rainbows and slides from moonbeams. Every visit filled his heart with happiness.
The moon seemed to shine even brighter than before. Some said it was because Magnus polished it with extra care. But Luna knew the truth—it glowed brighter because Magnus was no longer lonely.
Years passed, and Luna grew older, but she never stopped visiting her giant friend. She brought her own children to meet Magnus, teaching them that kindness matters more than size, and that friendship can bloom anywhere—even in the clouds.
Magnus continued to guard the moon faithfully, but now he did so with a smile. Every night, as he polished the silver surface, he thought of his friends below and felt grateful.
And on clear nights, if you look very carefully at the highest mountain peak, you might just see a enormous shadow waving down at the world. That's Magnus, still watching over the moon, but never alone again.
